That's right and not just in Canada either. Americans will get their butt thrown in prison, too.

Christopher Handley, an American living in Iowa, faces a possible 15 years in prison along with a $250,000 fine for possession of lolicon (and/or shotacon. The article mentions both.) manga from Japan. The trail was rather lengthly and the man finally just plead guilty to the charges filed against him. It doesn't seem fair, considering that there are probably many other Americans that have such manga.

However, a legal loophole allows the charges of possession to stand due to the material having been ?moved in interstate commerce,? even though it would otherwise be Constitutionally protected art.

Now, I myself am not a fan of lolicon or shotacon (regular yaoi and, to an extent, yuri is another matter entirelly) and while I agree that "visual representations of the sexual abuse of children" is wrong, this is just manga, you know. The children dipicted in these manga are imaginary. Now, if the man had owned actual real CP (child pornograpgy), then that would be different. But reading through the article, it was never mentioned that he did (it never said that he didn't either, but his home was searched, you know.)

Think about it. It's like charging someone for murdering a video game character. It doesn't really make that much sense. (The Canada case really does not make any sense. Although, it was said that real CP was found in the shotacon twins possession...so I can see a basis for their arrest...but even still.)

In the day and age that we live in, I suppose something like this shouldn't be so surprising. After all, we live in a world where it's okay to be yourself as long as no one else has to witness it and where there is a pill for just about everything. ("Backache? Take a pill! Headache? Take a pill! Too happy? Take a pill! Too mad? Take a pill! Need more oomph in your love life? Hey, we have one for that too!!")

And don't get me started on Navel...but that's a blog for another day!! =D
